Upcoming IT Changes - Mon 28th Oct 0000 UTC (Part 1)

Friends new to SOTA consistently compliment the number and sophistication of the web-based tools we have. Thank you for all the improvements and maintenance to keep them all up and running!

There will almost certainly be a delay to this as the import of users from the old SSO server is going slower than expected and triggered a timeout overnight, so was restarted this morning. There’s 650 files of users to import and we’re going about 1 per minute and it’s been going for 2 hours already, so only about another 8(!) to go.

OK, we’re almost done - I’ve had to import via a different method as the previous method was getting slower and slower because it held a massive transaction open that was chewing up more and more memory.

Into the 560s now of 650 files and tracking at 10-15 seconds per file (each file is 50 users). I expect I should be ready to begin the cutover around the 0600 UTC mark.

First cutover for SSO about to happen, but I’m going to have dinner first.

Cutover starting - expect some weirdness in the next few minutes with SSO logins. Any existing login sessions will be reset.

Thanks Andrew, a few things to tidy up in the backend, but we’re largely there.

Users please note: You may need to clear cache for sso.sota.org.uk if your browser is caching an older token.

Working here in the UK on my ancient Samsung tablet… and WOW, it blew my socks off! I wasn’t expecting such a change visually. :grinning:

OK, Spots and alerts are now synchronised between the two instances. I may have inadvertently deleted a spot or two during the sync process, but I don’t believe so.

  • SSO is now updated to new version. Thanks to Manuel @HB9DQM for the background image on the desktop login page.
  • SOTAWatch is now upgraded, and pointing to a new spots database. Over the next day or two the last items connected to the old database will be updated (just the RSS feed, I think)
  • API is now ticking along. I’ll keep an eye on performance over the coming week and decide if we need an additional server in the loop.

Quick logging is working, no problems.

Anyone tried SMS spotting? Failing via my ZL SMS gateway currently … but is it working via the main UK SMS gateway?

I’m going to bed! Will fix in the morning if the issue is at my end!

Sotawatch started here without cache cleaning - WOW, different world.

Thank you Andrew :exclamation:

Where does that route to? Back to Andy’s main spotter?

Yes - to Andy’s gateway. Will take a quick look and see if its SSO or the spot itself failing.

The spotter is suspended right now.

Alerts Tab - Below summit references have a space before ‘/‘ which means the hyperlink to the summit reference page times out!
