Tropo lift this weekend - who's playing on 2m?

At around 1130 BST today, I was rag chewing with @GW0PLP Don.

Don lives near Cardigan. I was on the summit of Coirc Bheinn GM/SI-055 on the island of Mull.

I make that around 490km.

5w, Quansheng, slim-g at my end. Don was stronger, much stronger than the guys I worked in Glasgow. I also worked @GI4ONL Victor, who was very patient when I kept calling him GM4, because the signal was very weak.

Great fun on 2m today!

Do we have any actual figures for the loss involved in using a PL259 as against an N connector? My experience suggests that it is very small on 2/70. Incidentally, my first 70cm setup back in the 60s used a Belling-Lee connector…it worked!

Nice! I was really was hoping for a GM station on Sunday, but I ended up only chasing one summit. :man_shrugging:

Next time, I promise. :crossed_fingers:

QTH is IO72RC Near Cardigan on the West Coast in Ceredigion.

Apologies Don. Post edited. Hope to hear you today from Ben Buie.

Don was consistently 59+++ on Sunday on 2m SSB with me using a flowerpot antenna. We had a few QSOs and his signal was always constantly loud. That path looks like it would be easy with even small beams and a few watts 24/7/365.

It was great to work you also Andy and you were up to 55 or more at times here. I’m just running with a Diamond X300 Vertical here because I took the beam down abot 14 months ago. Qth here is 650asl overlooking Cardigan Bay above the village of Aberporth. Condx have been good for me here on 144 SSB & FM to GM & the Hebs. I worked MM6OEC on the Isle of Lewis twice yesterday both on FM & SSB. Condx look good today as well on the Hepburn site.

One more chance tomorrow, from GM/SI-061.

It’s more of a courtesy call on 70 cm

It works sometimes but getting a reply is just a nice surprise.

It’s a licence-revokable offence to be out /P and not call on 270. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

70cm was good fun on Tuesday evening. I made 90 contacts - 63 SSB, 1 CW and 26 FM.

Genuinely did work (almost) the length and breadth of the British Isles too:
