Below is my activation report for the Old Man of Coniston G/LD-013, this weekend
Hi Paul, another great report ! ![]()
And a great 360 panoramic view ! ![]()
I like your easy switching between FM and SSB on the IC705 along with you homebrew flowerpot !
What flowerpot design did you use ? ![]()

Thanks, there is a view, you just can’t see it ![]()
I think I may have based it on a post from VK1AD, but the link no longer works.
I used a short length RG174 coax with a BNC socket , but used 7/.02 wire instead of the centre core of the coax. I 3D printed a former for the choke.
As I tend to use a carbon 6 pole, I found that In had to make 100mm spacer to hang the flowerpot from. Before using the spacer the SWR was all over the place as the aerial blew in the wind.
Thanks for the info. on your homebrew flowerpot.
I have an IC-705 but have not yet used it on 2m-fm or 2m-ssb.
I have a Slim-G so maybe need to try with that.

And of course the day we are leaving, The Old Man of Coniston shows himself, for the first time all week. The waterfall to the right, is the outfall from Low Water
Still, not a bad view to look at having your morning cup of tea![]()
Both staring longingly at summits then. Swap you for my morning cuppa view this morning.
Earnslaw, ZL3/OT-001 and its 2 outliers. Taunting me. So wanted to. But working: and couldn’t.
You win ![]()
At least you made it up your peak. I promised myself this morning I’d finally summit Earnslaw this next break, but now I can see a forecast, there are gale force winds predicted. Recall similar promises and failures to follow through last year after the same view on the same job!
Better do it soon, or it’ll be another year to wait for a chance at a non-technical summer ascent.
Hi Paul, Nice to work you on 144mhz ssb 267km 166miles your signal was up and down a little but around the 2-3 most of the time. Listened for you the following day on another summit and could not hear you.
Thanks Don PLP.
Thanks for chasing Don, it was a good distance. The weather wasn’t great so we didn’t do as many walks as originally planned.
