Surprised at Mt McDonald

20 May 25 - Mt McDonald VK1/AC-048

I set off with the usual expectation of reaching the summit, on foot, in one hour. There were few surprises along the walking track, snakes, spiders and drop bears are in hibernation. Just an ordinary and uneventful walk.

However once at the summit, I was greeted to the sight of a new, heavy duty picnic table! What!!!

For years the expectation is you share the ground with the local (gazillion) ants :ant: which have a habit of invading your personal space including finding small gaps and cooling vents in your radio case to climb through. The most appropriate way to distract an Aussie ant is to sacrifice a portion of your yummy lunch or other snacks. Not this time! This time my well prepared lunch is all mine!

To the activation…. In total 17 contacts including three 20m SSB S2S with; John ZL1BYZ, John ZL3MR and Al VK1RX.

Uh huh. Taxes at work!

No BBQ plate?

It’s going to attract a lot more visitors now?

Good for SOTA though.

Such luxury only wish more summits could have the same. Would make things a lot more comfortable.
