I sometimes do impromptu and easy activations when my wife and I have a rental car in Japan. Last week we were near Mt. Hatafuriyama JA/NR-057 on the Osaka/Nara border. Looking at the details in the database, it seemed to be a rather popular summit - more than 1800 activations! Searching more, I learned that over 90% were on 70-cm FM, most by only two hams. My assumption is that they live very nearby and stroll up with a handy-talky a few times a month, but JAs enjoy their privacy so i couldn’t even find their names and addresses. Wondering if anyone has seen anything similar? If probably tire of talking to the same chasers, but it’s not a bad way to spend lunch hour.
looks sideways at Tom who is probably climbing The Cloud
There’s a few UK summits that are also up there, but they’ve been available a bit longer to activate. One summit near Berkeley is also often climbed to chase S2S points.
Many different ways to SOTA, of course!
I frequently activate Mt Stromlo VK1/AC-043 in the pursuit of S2S points.

I frequently visit oe/st-248 on foot to do walking training. It is the mountain with the highest elevation over the trail head in the vicinity of my home. To add another fun to the training I activate on 2 m almost every time I am up there.

A good site for 70cm FM contests maybe?
Which summit has been activated by the most number of different people (or callsigns if that makes the db query easier)?

It takes until number 16 for a non-UK summit to appear, and in the top 20 only two are non-UK (and both DM/BW). The first NA summit is number 40 (Mount Mitchell in W4C), and before that, 4 of the 39 are DM/BW, the rest UK summits. Probably a function of length of associations being available
The summits in DM/BW are well attended, also because of the Ham Radio.
BUT: I think the most activated summit in Germany is DM/NS-122…

Just curious why this link
https://www.sotadata.org.uk/en/summits/top does not list The Cloud as the most popular summit in terms of number of activations, and why are others missing?
Is there a filter/sort on the “last activation” date or something?
This always happens at the beginning of the year. As soon as there has been a 2025 activation it will appear in the list. It’s a very poor show from @M1EYP that he still hasn’t been up there yet. Perhaps there’s a little snow about…
The Cloud has not been activated in 2025. Summits need to have been activated in the current calendar year before they are included in the list. Why is it like this? Because it is!
Thanks for the clarification.
I think that will chance tonight Andy, as I am sure my dad Tom @M1EYP is planning to activate The Cloud G/SP-015 for the 2m FMAC and 2m UKAC tonight. That is unless the snow is very bad up there tonight.

Do you mean activated AND logged, Andy? I know a guy in Colorado who was six months behind logging.
