Stiperstones and Long Mynd bonus point time

The end of the winter bonus point time is fast approaching and I decided I needed a few more in the bag.

Time to bag to more unique summits that I had not activated before and I chose a couple of G/WB summits. I had plans on 4 G/WB summits but time didn’t allow.
First off G/WB-003 Stiperstones

Parked in the main car park and got my kit together (after a quick nibble on some mini-sausage rolls)

A quick glance over the notice board before heading up

About 20mins later I am at top and mist appearing around me

I had a chat with a chap who was just coming down from the trig point with his border collie dog that was enjoying climbing and down the rocks

A quick spot and managed 5 contacts on 2m using my FT3D. As the mist was mooching around and I had another hill to get to it was time to QRT and crack on.

Onwards to Long Mynd
The drive over to Long Mynd was nice. As I got closer I was on a single track road with a drop to my right and banks to my left. This would make a nice rally stage.

Parked in the car park (North car park I think it was). Made my way along the long gravel path to the trig point at the top.

I found a spot away from the public and started getting my kit together. The FT3D was already on 2m and before I got setup/spotted I made 3 S2S contacts. Once setup another S2S followed and another contact. 5 on 2m in total with 4 S2S.
A quick move to 14mhz/SSB followed and another S2S with HB9EAJ/P and then two more contacts.

During the contacts I was aware of a young lad that had wondered over to ask what I was up to. He stayed and listened to a couple of contacts and then we had a brief chat about what I was doing while his dad lingered at the trig point.

A few ladies were taking a group selfie at the trig point….I took the opportunity to photo bomb in the back ground…A voice shouted up…I spotted you!

Time to head back to the car.
The drive back down took me to the other end of the narrow road and wow, some views

Blagged from Google Maps

Cheers all chasers

Thanks

Hi John

For future reference, you can park at SO416943, which is very close to the trigpoint. Useful if you have limited time. Otherwise it is always nice to roam along the ridge and there is a fence below the summit in the AZ which is useful for HF dipoles.

G/WB-2,3,4 & 5 and GW/MW-013 were my favourite winter bonus summits when I lived in Wolverhampton. Enjoy whilst you can.

Just one 2 + 3 summit left in the G/WB area this winter to activate.

Good stuff, John, I couldn’t hear you sadly.
I hope to be heading down to Shropshire tomorrow to tackle 4 of the 5, I won’t bother with Pole Bank.
Btw, for interest, here’s a pic of the car park at S0416934 which I took last December.
