Anyway, here are yesterday’s SSTV images:
That was fun!
Excellent pictures from Tom again.
Doing away with the USB and using a simple passive interface worked flawlessly.
QSO with Tom completed with old Linux netbook, but also tried an Android phone which worked well too. The VOX mod on the FT-817 worked well.
I think I’ll go forward with the Android set-up as it’s obviously smaller and lighter.
Tom - I use ‘auto slant correction’ on receive. Does mmsstv have a similar function?
Thanks again Tom, hope we can do some more sstv soon.
Apologies to Carolyn for not being set-up when we had our SSB QSO. I’ll be more organised next time.
Not sure where the other stations went…
Yes Ian. Carolyn @G6WRW talked me through that on air after I reported her Martin 1 and Martin 2 images of coming through with 45 degree or more slant. Interestingly, her Scottie 1 transmission had no slant at all. Anyway, once auto-slant correction was enabled in MMSSTV everything was perfect.
It was me being late to the party that was the problem. But always pleased with a s2s on any band or mode.
Just for intrest Tom I was TXing 2.5W and a 4el Tonna yagi for our exchanges on sstv.
I spoke to someone after our am contact and they said I was “distorted” so discontinued with that mode.
Hello Tom, tell me, what does the RST stand for with regard to SSTV reports?

It’s RSV, not RST.

Thanks Tom for that link. Very informative.

I’m glad you prompted the issue Geoff. I must admit, I’ve been dishing out “595” reports in these formative SSTV sessions in a similar way to how 59(9) reports are given in major HF contests. I’m going to start giving out more helpful reports I think and not be so lazy!
And now to consider “What’s next?” I think we need to start branching out and including the traditional 20m SSTV operation in these sessions, making them inclusive for non-UK participants. At the same time, I want to keep “2m multimode Saturdays” running.
How about a 20m SSTV session on Monday morning (Bank Holiday here in the UK)? With a few of us participating, we could use a QRG like 14.233MHz, slightly away from the main SSTV calling channel, or wherever is clear. But being a Monday morning, that SSTV area of the band might be somewhat freer than usual.
Hi Carolyn,
FWIW when I saw Tom alerted for AM I had a listen and caught the end of your QSO with him - didn’t notice any problem, either listening in AM mode or USB.
Not a peep from Tom on any of his modes except FT8… which unfortunately I don’t have transmit capability for on 2m at the moment

Thanks for the reassurance Paul. You can never really tell what the signal is like when portable.
On a band/mode I’m familiar with the 1 in 1000 bad report is just ignored.
Sometimes I think some have forgotten what the big knob on the radio is for🙂
Having a try on 20m now from Kinder Scout G/SP-001. I’ve avoided the usual SSTV QRG (14.230) as it is, as ever, busy. I’ve moved up to 14.233 which seems clear. Any SSTV-ready chasers out there?
