Hi all,
the SpotSMS/SpotAPRS gateway seems ready to use.
What are these?
SpotSMS is a gateway between the mobile phone network and the SOTAwatch.org ’s spot list. If you are QRV on a summit just send an SMS to the SpotSMS gateway and it shows up your spot on SOTAwatch.org .
With help of SpotAPRS gateway you will be able to send spot to SOTAwatch.org via European APRS flow.
For more information have a look at the SpotGateway Log site.

The APRS gateway looks very interesting, however the 2 hour limit for spot-codes is a little short. It may be many hours between an activators last internet access & the time to self spot. Could the time frame be extended? Say 8 - 12 hours?
Secondly, does the gateway only pass one APRS spot per activation, or does it rely on Sotawatch moderators manually removing duplicates? If the latter, I would have doubts about using it for fear of increasing their workload unneccesarily.
All the best,
Dick.
In reply to M0EIQ:
Hi Dick,
One shall generate spot-code in advance, when still at home. You have to specify the estimated time of activation, just like for an alert. The spot-code is valid for that
time in the future. Then program your APRS device with the spot(s) and send the packets when activating.
SpotAPRS has a history of 15 minutes, duplicates within this time are ignored.
This shall reduce the number of eventual duplicates to a tolerable level.

Zsolt,
Are you sure there is no way to use the SpotAPRS from the states? I would love to use SpotAPRS this weekend. I would also like to test SpotSMS.

Hi Luc,
Your SMS has not arrived. Please send it to 0036703595143, note the double zero in front of 36.
The text shall look like:
ON6DSL/P PASSWD * ON/ON-001 7118 IGNORE SMS TEST
Note the third word, for a self-spot it must be an asterisk (*). If you spot someone
else then put his/her callsign there.

I just tried it. But it doesn’t work here either.

I sent it to the number mentioned above with the 2 zero’s :o)
Do the letters have to be in capital or is this not necessary?

In reply to ON3WAB:
Just a guess, but is it because the sender used was for example on3wab/p rather than on3wab ?.

In reply to ON3WAB:
Hi Peter and Luc,
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the bugs, we are looking into the problem.
Stay tuned…

In reply to G6SFP:
Might be Nigel, but if you spot yourself you should put /p I think? Otherwise you should send on3wab once and then on3wab/p agn?
Let the big guys look into it first
Peter
In reply to ON3WAB:
Peter, do you have ON3WAB/P also as a registered callsign?
73,
Zoli
Hi Zoli,
No I haven’t. Registered as ON3WAB
Would Nigel’s remark be the good one?
Peter
