The SOTA-POTA dual stuff can be good fun. In recent years I did a campout on Shining Tor SOTA G/SP-004 - POTA GB-0048. I self-spotted on the POTA app as well as SOTAwatch, and ended up with a monster CW pile-up to North America running through the night!
Yesterday I nipped Gun G/SP-013 - which is also within POTA GB-0048 (Peak District National Park). Again I self-spotted on both schemes. The highlight was getting a call “Park to park” on 10m SSB - from a DX station in Barbados (8P)! Plenty of Brazil (PY), Argentina (LU), Chile (CE) and Uruguay (CX) worked on 10 too.
I just sent you a DM about this and now i have just seen this haha! Gun is also one of the new GB POTAs - GB-1284 Gun moor, so it now a 3for with SOTA! and a 4for if like me, you activae WAB trigs aswell!

Wow, thanks Alan, I had no idea about this. Is it recent because I’m sure it wasn’t on the POTA map a couple of weeks ago.
I’m very fortunate that many summit I do are in a POTA park too. Duel activations are my favorite!
FB on campout and activation. Looks like perfect weather, lots of contacts, and beautiful location. SOTA and POTA combinations will get you a lot of QSOs. Try adding WWFF, the original POTA and you’ll get more DX and have an even bigger pileup. Most of the POTA parks are WWFF parks.
I’ll have to try that. Thanks!
We’ve got a lot of those in VA too. It’s not uncommon to have a SOTA summit and dual POTAs all at once. Having the AT nearby helps with that.
Chris
I did Gun as a SOTA over the weekend and noticed it’s a nature reserve, so contacted the POTA England rep and she added the park for me!
Awesome
Many Summits here are near the PCT. I hope to thru-hike it someday, for now we just do sections. I’ve heard the AT is a great trail, too. I haven’t been on that one yet.
Cheers, W6IWN Bobby
One of my frustrations with POTA. It should be a definative list of all valid parks. But in many places, because the POTA list is so incomplete, its effectively an ad-hoc list of people’s favoutite places that they have asked to be added.
This was certainly the case in ZL until the most recent AM @ZL1BQD took over, agreed on some national criteria for what would / would not be included, added them all and retired the existing invalid parks (e.g. community playgrounds). A massive task but one that’s seen POTA participation take off here.
