SOTA on Lofoten Islands

Daniel, HB9IIO, was unfortunately unlucky yesterday, June 1, 2025, with the only SOTA activation planned during his Lofoten vacation: SOTA LA/NL-577 Finngamheia

The reason: The space weather conditions, which had been unfavorable for some time, reached their maximum values at exactly this time with K-index values between 7-8 and, can you imagine, the speed of the solar wind directed against Earth of up to 1000 km/s (yes, kilometers/second)?

However, Daniel was not completely unprepared, as several of his POTA activations in the previous days had not resulted in the usual pile-ups.

As Daniel told me, after about 480 meters of ascent, a stunning view in glorious sunshine fully compensated for the failed SOTA activation. A great attitude!

Almost at the same time, Manuel, HB9DQM, happened to be on the Lofoten Islands, and from his activation of SOTA LA/NL-526 Lødingsaksla on May 23, 2025, there is also a photo on SOTLAS with the “midnight sun” …
