Well done, @K4FR Scott, for making an impression in Earl Swift’s recently released Appalachian Trail memoir, Up on Cove Mountain. SOTA is not only mentioned in the book but also included in the index!
As many of you know, Scott (“Shoes” on the trail) is a hiker’s hiker—always ready to share his knowledge, experience, and good attitude with those around him. I read the opening paragraph about a barefoot SOBO hiker who sounded remarkably like Scott and immediately texted him the quote. Then, distracted by life for the next ten minutes, I returned to the book and turned the page, only to discover that Scott was named outright, along with a description of a weather-truncated activation of W4V/SH-009 North Marshall in Shenandoah National Park.
My initial text was: “I choose to believe this is you.”
His response; “It literally is.”
