I’ve never owned a dog but my parents had dogs when I was growing up. It was great to spend some time yesterday morning as a volunteer with my local Mountain Rescue team. I was sniffed out in my hiding place by Search Dog Storm.

Knowing that there will be interest on this thread, I am re-posting my earlier text, with some updates below - all is ready, the award certificate, online activator log viewing, operational schedule view and mini-cluster to see when the stations are on-air and Realtime log entry (so that callers can see when they are “in-the-log”) has all been tested at hamlog.online and the event will start in Europe on August 1st (US later in the month as special event calls are not allocated for a full month in the US, only 1 or 2 weeks).

Although there is one special day to celebrate International Dog Day and think of the rescuers and carers of unfortunate dogs, most of the Special Event stations for IDD will be on for the whole month of August. So, you may catch GB4DOG, DA0DOG, DL0DOG, YL1DOG on any day, K2D is only on from the 21st - 26th August.
If we want to gather the dog herd - there’s no reason SOTA dogs on Summits could not coordinate a weekend day to have the “doggy - to - doggy summit” contact with each other and the special event stations! The actual International Dog Day is the 26th of August.

I will be part of the DL0DOG team.

Different session, different dog, this time I was sniffed out by our Yorkshire Dales Search Dog Kez. If you get lost on the Yorkshire Three Peaks (G/NP-004, G/NP-005, or G/NP-010) this is the lovely doggy that will find you.

Saw the sign first and I thought your hund was named Vito after Don Vito Corleone! :face_with_peeking_eye:

Little Lui’s another great accomplishment: he climbed all the way to the highest SOTA summit in Bosnia: Nadkrstac, 2112 masl, SOTA code E7/BO-086.

He also wanted to help with my activation, so I have to keep him away from my cw key and my radio…

HF would be a step too far for Clive. He hasn’t got the patience (or the desire not to walk/sit/roll wherever you don’t want him ie on top of the radio/antenna). However it was an absolutely glorious day - no clouds, no wind, warm sunshine and good VHF conditions. Time for a quick 4 contacts and pray that he’s tired for the rest of the day!

PS he doesn’t normally look that unkempt, but the delights of rolling in sheep poo and heather were just too much to resist. I think he needs a clean before my wife sees him :face_with_peeking_eye:

My trail dog Crimson.

She is my best friend in the whole world. I cherish our time in the woods together.

However in true Australian Shepherd fashion the second we get back home, she goes and finds her ball so we can play some fetch. The hike does nothing to tire her out, just builds her stamina. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I activated with my “Anmitsu” on JA/NN-175.

It’s my 1st activation with her.

Although I couldn’t concentrate on operating, it was a fun time on the summit.

Thanks ALL. 73,

Thank you, Geoff.

My dog is “ Shiba” = Japanese Shiba Dog.

This dog was rescued from animal hoarding with 122 dogs 4-years ago.

At first she was injured and sickly, but now she is very active..

I want to overcome her car sickness and go to various summits together.

My little dude got a bit cold on GW/SW-012 yesterday.

Fortunately, it was a short activation and, 20 minutes later, he was nose-down and eating sheep poo again

I don’t have a dog but yesterday on Birks Fell G/NP-031 this one decided I was his friend.

It was difficult to get a decent photo as whenever I attracted his attention he just came over to me.

I’d been sat on the hill for a while when I saw a farmer in a quad bike come past on a track the other side of the wall. A little later I heard a dog barking and then it came over to me. It was so friendly just wanting to sit on my lap. A bit annoying when you are trying to activate! I think I must have finished HF CW and was just beginning to do 2m.

After a while the farmer came back on his quad bike and I thought the dog would go over to his master. But he didn’t. Perhaps that isn’t where he came from.

He then followed me all the way down the hill to Starbotton. I was just about back to the village when I met a local dog walker. I said it wasn’t my dog and it had followed me. We caught the attention of a farmer and he took the dog so at least it was in the warm last night. They were going to ask round and put the details on their local SOS dog group so hopefully it will be reunited with its owner. It didn’t have a tag. I think it may have come up from Littondale on the opposite side of Birks Fell.
