Apparently 26 August 2024 is International Dog Day. Unfortunately it’ll be a Monday, so not the best day for an international “gathering” of SOTA dogs .

I was so looking forward to using my new licence freedoms to allow our best friends to exchange greetings .

There is a special event day to celebrate International Dog Day. Most of the Special Event stations for IDD will be on for the whole month of August. So, you may catch GB4DOG, GB0DOG, YL1DOG on another day. K2D is on from the 21st - 26th August.
If we want to gather the dog herd - there’s no reason SOTA dogs on Summits could not coordinate a weekend day to have the “doggy - to - doggy summit” contact with each other and the special event stations! For example, the day before - i.e. the 25th of August.

I intended to be part of the event but when I applied for an SES call, with the German regulator the event did not meet the BNetZA requirements for a Special Event.

Shouldn’t it be K9D?

K9DOG would be even better but … Special event calls in the US are always 1 X 1 and Caryn KD2GUT who applied for the call got the one for her region hence “2”. I “think” with US SES calls you get the region number for where you are located. So someone in IN, IL or WI could apply for K9D.

SOOOO … what do the dog-owning activators think about getting out onto a summit with your pooch on Sunday August 25th and chasing the the special event stations and each other?

I suppose this time /P will mean /Puppy, /Pooch or in some cases /Poodle! Sorry, if that was a bit “Wuff” for some of your tastes.

Rodney on Urra Moor G/TW-001.

3 contacts; 0 points, 1 poop, several pees and innumerable sniffs.

I think that counts as a successful day out :grinning:

Sorry I missed you on the ground wave Andy, I was out when you were on. Rodney is a lovely dog.

We’ve had him 3 days Phil, so today was his first SOTA. He was very good, but I thought it was unfair to stay too long trying for a 4th contact. We’ll be back!

Great to hear Andy - how old is Rodney then? An hours walk I reckon to reach G/TW-001 from Clay Bank, he will have enjoyed it! You got me thinking that I ought to educate our 18 month old Border Terrier Pippa, she has yet to visit a SOTA Summit, although she has done several 6-8 mile walks.

I didn’t mention it on the reflector but we lost the instigator of this thread, Treacle, who died last August.

Peppa. She’s a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, and the perfect companion for harsh SOTA adventures!

Hi Romain, thanks for photo of your dog. I looks like a great dog. Does it have short legs? What is the breed use for?
