Good old Treacle, she is like the rest of us and starting to show her age!
Related to dogs and amateur radio - August 26th is International Dog Day and in an effort to publicise the number of dogs (and cats) in animal shelters, several hams in Europe have special call signs and will be on air from the 22nd to the 26th August.
A list of those taking part can be found at

Perhaps some SOTA operators with summit-capable dogs (or cats) would like to activate around this time to work the special event stations? (I hope it does start “raining cats and dogs” on your activations)!

Our three SOTA dogs on W7O/CS-081 during the 2022 W7O Campout in July, the dauschund rides along in the backpack.
No SOTA summit, or any hill, is a “complete” for me without my Border collie, Sula, for company. As she has been injured this summer I haven’t been on the hills recently but as she’s now better, we’re all set to head up for those winter bonuses soon….
Always our little york Miss Louna is with us during my few activation’s

Hi Ed
Have you published the design for your head mounted antenna?
73 Richard
Hi Richard,
It’s quite simple - drill a hole in the skull, countersink and thread it and then screw the antenna in - simple!
NO! this is Falkenstein not Frankenstein!
This might be a better shot:

Not as entertaining though!
This is Remey on his 100th Summit. He is a bit dirty from the bushwhack up to the summit of East Crater (W7W/LC-025)
Here’s couple of pics of Moxie the station dog on Berwick Law GM/SS-280 a few weeks ago.

Harry - oh come on dad let me chase the kangaroos while you play radio!
I don’t know if this counts, but this is a Mastin Espanol, a Spanish Mastiff. They are out on the mountainside 24x7 to protect their herd of goats / sheep or cows. They are much bigger than appears in the photo. Pena Vieja, EA/CT-001, is in the background (I think). It’s a bit outside my climbing capabilities, from this side anyway.
Yes, I do realise I could have taken a more flattering picture
This is Buster, he’s a French Bulldog (Frenchie) and he’s coming up for 12 months old.
He’s not really built for summit’s however the occasional easy summit (dog’s take after their owners … Really!!!) And he should be fine. Here he is posing on The Cloud, first SOTA summit and the most activated summit in the world!
Buster is great at busting pile ups as well as creating them. de M0GIA
Peña Vieja has a easy way to arrive summit, near Cabaña Verónica stars a path at the right and in a hour you are in the summit. Rest of the ways to get tonof the summit is needed climbing.
Mastín español is the only dog in north of Spain that wins agains wolves
