Restoring a 100 year old+ Key

Hi Ian @EI3LH.
I really enjoyed restoring a McElroy semi-automatic. Manufactured in 1937. On a friend’s recommendation, I used Coca-Cola and shoe polish.
I submerged all the parts in a tray of Coca-Cola for 24 hours.
And the base, after dusting it off, I applied black shoe polish.

These were the results:

It works perfectly, it’s a pleasure to use!!!

…and to think we drink the stuff! :face_with_peeking_eye:

Great results Dani! Another key saved from destruction and back doing the job it was built for!

@GM4LLD I packed up the FL-2010 and MML 144/25 and shipped them off to the EI Jamon Doctor this morning. I did the prelim checks, they are both showing zero life indicators so I’m out of my depth now. Dr EI will fix them (I hope)!

Coca-cola is a lot less acidic than stomach acid and your stomach will produce around 1 to 1.5L of gastric juices (main component hydrochloric acid) daily. Puts drinking Coca-cola into context.
