It was a pleasure to join René today for his 4th Mountain Goat activation on the Hockenhorn HB/VS-104.
Congratulations, René @HB9CRY, on adding this latest member to your herd!
The weather, the temperatures and the views were simply fantastic – it really couldn’t have been better. An all-round perfect and unforgettable day in the mountains.
René, I wish you continued joy, success and many more unforgettable moments during your upcoming activations on the way to your next Mountain Goat. Keep it going!
Just curious, that antenna there on the radio being operated, is that a Diamond RHM-10 or 12? Or something else entirely.
How do you have it fixed? I know with the RHM-10 and 12 you can mount one to an ICOM IC-705 with an aftermarket bracket. I’m looking for a similar bracket for my KX2 (it looks like a KX2 in the photo?). Currently using a Manfrotto pocket tripod which works reasonably well.
Thank you very much, Stefan, for the kind words - and thanks to everyone for the congratulations! It was a perfect day in the mountains, and I’m already looking forward to the next activations. See you on the air!
A fellow RHM-12 owner here. I love it (though need to use it more often). The photo obscures the connection point a little so I wasn’t sure how you had it set up. This is the one I use:
I did switch out to my old Hama last Spring which works well. Now though I just want to pop it on a picnic bench, chuck on 3 radials with the Diamond tripod adapter and then operate QRP.
My set up (Manfrotto and later in the thread the Hama)
The IC-705 can accommodate the RHM-12 with a special bracket. I was hoping the KX2 (and possibly the KH1 too) could also accommodate it. Maybe a right angle PL-209 to BNC adapter and a 3D printed support could work as strain relief?
Great work with your set up and I just love that photo. What a view!
Congratulations Rene, on your fourth goat, and thank you for the many S2S, like yesterday. Unfortunately, yesterday I was too distracted to congratulate you over the air because a dog was trying to get tangled in my coax .
Thank you also for the many summit descriptions that link to sotatrails.ch.
