Having read Fraser’s recent report and forgetting a vital piece of kit, I have to call out myself as an “amateur” too. I haven’t been out in a while, dodgy knee. I decided to take it easy today and went up the Knock of Crieff GM/SS-264. Having struggled operating my tr-uSDX I think I’ve got the hang of it. I had it out today with a random wire. All was ready, mast up, wire fitted, tuned and…no pen! I tried to run a log on my iPhone using the Outd log app but alas never having used it before I struggled. I think I missed two QSO’s apologies to them, I’m happy to correct my logs. Apologies to those that I did call and having to ask for c/s repeatedly.
Never a great experience, learning how to work something for the first time, on a hill top!
I’ve never used a logging app. If I have a problem with paper logging (broken pen, wet paper etc) I use the Notes app on my phone and log in FLE format.
You need PoLo logging app. You’ll never look back after using it.
That’s exactly what I did chum, thank you
Had a listen for you today Paul hoping for a Complete, but unfortunately I couldn’t hear you on either band.
I hope the dodgy knee behaved itself. Shame about the pen, but it’s difficult to get everything together when you’ve been out of action for a while. I had something similar happen to me, but I managed to get around it using the audio recorder on my phone, remembering to vocalise times while the 73s were being sent by the other stations.

Didn’t think of that, Doh!
I’m just too stupid to log on my phone.
I was hoping to catch you s2s this morning from GM/SS-122 for a complete on Knock of Crieff but the ground was a bit boggy and I was late on the summit. Glad you managed to improvise for logging today. I broke my pencil on my first sota activation just as 9 chasers decided to answer my call ! I could hear them talking amongst themselves wondering where I had got to as I hunted for another writing implement.

Downloaded and played with, it does seem to meet the need esp. with the numbers needed. TY
Android too?
Not sure how it compares to VK port-a-log. But on iOS it’s the best logging app.
Ham2k is on android. Same thing, it would seem.
Ditto as to using a voice recorder on the phone. I have four such apps, and the best is Voice Recorder Pro, by Dayana. It’s free, and it shows the time on playback. In a pinch, you could use video on the phone, but not for many hours … and it uses up battery.
How about stashing pencils here and there in your pack?

Ham2K PoLo is superb. I’ve now used it for over 50 Activations. I was previously a long time user of VKPortalog.
I must say though that I only currently do phone modes. I’ve no idea what it would be like trying to log when sending and receiving morse.
I can type on my phone screen and speak/listen OK with my right hand.
Propelling / mechanical pencil?
