Funny you should say that! I’m in EI at present. Though not here for SOTA, I did manage to escape up Arderin EI/IE-019 for a quick activation attempt. It was a lovely drive, but the short walk to the summit was through thick cloud and rain, with a stiff wind. Once there, antenna up, and all I could hear on the VX5 was broadcast FM! I think that is definitely the last time I try to use that little beast for SOTA, but its all I managed to bring with me. Hey ho, I got there and radiated a bit of RF, so its sort of almost the beginnings of an activation ;o)
Heading home now, and thinking how to get some HF portable gear organised for next time…
