After few weeks here in Chelyabinks oblast (UA9) activating few POTA and WWFF references I had the opportunity to be on air from R9U/SO-205. It is not a big mountain (2 points) but it was a first time on air summit.
The place around it’s very nice, it’s a season sport and vacational center where you can spend a week doing many different sports and enjoying a good variety of thematic restaurants and bars to have a great time with family.
The ascend to the peak it is just about 40 minutes walking through the forest. In the top you can see the City of Miass and Lake Turgoyak with a beautiful views.
The set up was an IC705 and a linked dipole from 17 to 40m. As voacap suggested that 15m will be the best band to EA an EA8 I tried to started there tunning with a “mini emergency tuner” wich I never use but I usually bring in the backpack. I recognise I’m very obsessive with the SWR and the best I was able to tunning was 1:1,8 and that’s to much for me. I changed to 17m without tuner and a lovely 1:1,2 in the display make me smile.
I started to call CQ and just few seconds later I started to work all EU from EA to UA, from LA to I and 18 minutes later… BINGO !!! I heard @W4GO calling me, unbelievable!! That’s make my day. It was great to hear @EA2BD too.
Then I moved to 20m to give the opportunity to another EU and UA stations to work the ATNO reference and finally 10 minutes on 40m to my UA9 friends.
After 1h20min and 64 QSO I received a message from my wife who was walking around with the family suggesting that it was time to leave because of the heat for our 4 months old baby. I packed everything quickly and in less than 30 minutes I met them.
In my opinion 64 QSOs are very few, but what can you expect on a Tuesday (UTC) morning ?
I want to thank all the help and support to my family, who do not let me go alone to any reference so as not to be devoured by the bears hihihi, and also to the local UA9 hams for their friendship, collaboration and encouragement on each operation especially to R9AB, @RA9WJV, @RK8A and @@RX9WT,
thank you guys, you are great.
I can’t wait for the next UA9 summit.
73 and thanks for the QSOs
