QSOs with muggles on a summit

There will be two directions when antenna A and antenna B look through each other. One way A looks through B and 180degs away B looks through A.

This is “near”. Not in contact with the vehicle.

Maybe the rule should be amended to “far enough away that you can’t hear your wife in the motor vehicle saying ‘are you done yet?’”

Unintended consequence, you wouldn’t hear the offer of a cuppa, either :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I couldn’t see a way to view SOTA activity per band per year except for individual callsigns. I’m curious to know if there is much SOTA activations on the 24GHz (12mm) band or above.

I imagine that moving from 10GHz to 24GHz is a big leap in technical difficulty, with problems of stability of RF components and mechanical precision needed for antennas and feeders.

You can do it for other bands on Sotamaps, but it just has 23cm, 13cm then SHF with no further breakdown.

Pete, I couldn’t see how you got to that screen. I tried looking under Association. But I found this under Facts & Figures, which I think is worldwide, all-time QSOs per band

I used the summit history tab on the sota maps, will also give a breakdown of an individual summit by activator too.

I don’t seem to be able to view activity by Association but the Regional bar chart is good for a quick-glance comparison of UHF vs SHF activity.

Neat tripod, could do with one of those - Anybody have an idea what it is?

@G4YTD which tripod? my light one or Barry’s extra heavy one?

Mine is a cheap portable satellite dish tripod. Available with short or long mast. It also has a hole through each leg which you can put a tent peg (or screwdriver) through to prevent it blowing over.

@HB9GVW The antennas were set up side by side in the direction of the most available contacts (south from that location).

Further development of the system is a taller mast on the tripod to mount both antennas on the same mast.

Next time out I will be trying a dish with dual band feed, so only 1 antenna on the mast.

Thanks Stuart,

I have one similar to yours for QO100 that I use with a 1.2m dish, thanks for the info with the setup, interesting to hear how you progress.

I contacted Barry, his tripod is a commercial item purchased “years ago from a rally”, it also has az and el built into the top mount, unless very lucky, dont think there is much chance of finding one.

Thanks for the info..

Tim
