Prairie Mountain VE6/RA-014, first activation

Thanks everybody for the QSO.

The propagation was much better than last week, the only downside was my 20m frequency 14.340 coincided with Mañana Net. I changed frequency to 14.342 after x12 QSO but no more QSL on 20m. After switching to 40m I had a single QSL with Peter VE7CV in Kamloops. According to a web page the Mañana Net seems to be Mon- Sat on 14:340 so I probably should choose a higher frequency 14.342? in future to prevent more problems?

Prairie Mountain VE6/RA-014 2214 M / 7264 ft is a popular spring mountain. Technically it is an easy safe hike, although steep in parts as it winds it way 3.8 km, ascent 726m / 2382ft, to a rising ramp with a steep cornice on on one side.

On the summit today next to a stone cairn somebody had put up a Canadian flag, this is of worthy note since many Canadians are quite quiet and reserved about their national pride, it was a nice piece of colour in an otherwise white and grey landscape.

You’re kidding, heh? Canadians can be clearly spotted the world over with their Maple Leaf motifs attached to rucksacks, jackets, suitcases, and anything else with a flattish surface.

It seems to me, being married to a Canadian, that it is the nation with the most visible patriotic pride. You have much to be proud of too!
