One of the cool “perks” of serving on SOTA MT, is occasionally Barry GM4TOE “experiments” on us when considering new lines for the SOTA Shop.
Well seven days ago, it was my birthday, and my brother treated me to some decent whisky. And then today, one week later, totally out of the blue, a little parcel from Scotland arrives for me to do some product research.
As twice chairman of Scotland’s Whisky Festival in the 1980s, you bet I do……
To keep SOTA costs down, though, I’ll supply the liquid contents myself…
Slainte, Tom.
If there is some interest I will make a few experimental ones - callsign to be added at time of purchase.
These are made for sale at the Portsoy Boatshed (with their logo, of course) but I do have a small random unengraved selection (leather cover or coloured stainless steel) which could be appropriately “engraved”
My new (prototype) hip flask arrived from Barry @GM4TOE yesterday. As with any new item in the shack, it was immediately subjected to rigorous analysis with my available test equipment. The test load was provided by a bottle of Ardmore (the nearest distillery to my QTH just 4 miles away) while the maximum flow in sips per second rigorously monitored. There is no current leakage, output quality was excellent, the spectrum - checked in my glass analyser from 1984 - was spot-on but the stability of the consumer unit was definitely adversely affected and subsequent signals transmitted became increasingly indecipherable!
Seriously, this is a really nice item to have and should be a popular addition to the SOTA shop. Well done Barry. 73 Mike
(That said, I’ll just have to buy another one when OFCOM change my 2M0 callsign and so these detailed tests, and more, will have to be done all over again……)
I have a few Hip Flasks listed on the shopping site. Stock is VERY limited but I will order a few more for next week.
Email me if you would like a specific item which is not currently available
I am only allowed a limited amount of 40% alcohol, so this will be filled with Glenfiddich and I will do the miserly thing and make it last a couple of weeks
