Plan B - North Berwick law GM/SS-280

I was hoping to activate Miekle Says law GM/SS-148 today, but it was just too windy. When I arrived at the parking spot the car was getting buffeted about in the horizontal lashing rain and it was hard to stand, let alone make progress to windward where the summit was. It is exposed moorland with no real shelter so I decided not to set off across it.

After an egg roll and coffee at the Lanterne Rouge in Gifford I decided to head for North Berwick law. It’s a smaller hill but at least has some place to shelter from the wind and is only a short walk up.

The rain had stopped by then and I got setup on the sheltered East side of the summit. It wasn’t a great pitch of the antenna since there’s not much space and it’s mostly hard volcanic rock.

The view to the Bass rock was good from my Vantage point today. A bit closer than Tuesday when I could also see it but from 50 miles away from the summit of Miekle Bin GM/SS-129.

I managed a few chasers on 2m and then some HF as well. 40m was full of contest stations but I found a gap. 15m was also good after a slow start but no takers on 17m today. A couple of Qso’s on 70cm for 433 alive day as well. Two s2s, out to Slovenia on 15m and Dumyat GM/SS-216 on 2m for MM6YSH first activation today.

I chatted with an interesting lady walking her dogs on the way down who turned out to be a David Bowie (Aladdin Sane) fan.

A good day out if not the original plan and my best haul of 24 QSO’S from this hill to date .

I was able to hear a wee bit of your QSO with MM6YSH, but unfortunately only his end! I was on the handy at Aberfoyle, so I figured getting North Berwick Law would be a bit too much of a stretch.

I listened out for you from QTH, just about heard you. Did hear Esther @GI0AZA and Ian @GI0AZB call you on 7MHz. Hope to catch you next time.
