Pirate on F/AM-640

Hi all,

Once more, F5MQW Pat wasn’t on AM-640.
He was on AM-641, with his nice CW and politeness, calling friends with their name, and a quick 73 “UFT” our CW club.
On AM-640, was a pirate sending with poor CW “599” and knowing nobody… !

641 is near Pat’s home, and 640 very far from there.

Let’s get our guns… hi !

In reply to F6ENO:
Hi Alain
In North GM land I am very well placed for checking directions for signals (not very much QRL North of this QTH!).
For Spring and Summer I have put up my 12x beverage system, each spaced 30 degrees - the signals were for sure not from AM-640 QTH.
This is the second day we have pirate operation (OK/ZL-029 yesterday).
QRX for more information …

Guns come later, and anyway I thought they hung pirates from the yard arm!

What we need now is bearings!

OK Cris,

Which direction was the signal ?
Don’t worry Brian, I have no gun here…

Answer from Pat F5MQW to my @-mail:
" je suis DESOLE mais il y a vraiment un IMBECILE qq part car je n’ai pas activé un 2ème SOTA.
bonne soirée mais je confirme le SOTA F/AM 641 Pilon Saint Clément. "

In reply to GM4FAM:

The keying and signal strength were the same for both OK2BDF/P and F5MQW/P. I therefore suspect it was the same op. However, he/she obviously has access to this Reflector and we must be careful what is said. With your bearing and a triangulation we might be able to narrow the station down. At least we are all on the watch now, but what a great pity. Nothing is sacred these days.

Pat is now back home; he sent a reply to Andy’s email.

He was on 641 and got down via a short cut…
He had better to take the normal way… tear trouser …hi !!

In reply to F6ENO:

tnx to Pat for AM-641.

the op from “AM-640” was the same (from my feeling)
like the one on March 6th signing f5mqw/p.

I wonder how sick one must be to do this?

In reply to G4CMQ:
Yes David, the same op is my feeling too.
I will not be posting any bearings info on the Reflector.

In reply to GM4FAM:

The easy way to avoid any doubt is to always alert activations if you have access to a PC, the pirates can’t do that.

73 Mike GW0DSP

In reply to GW0DSP:
Yes excellent idea
Even better, let him put a spot just before climbing.
73, Mike, F6GEO

In reply to GW0DSP an F6GEO:
Yes Mike and Michel,

I don’t know if it is possible to send an alert via telephone, when we
have no Internet acces, but it would be a good idea to spotlite when starting climbing.
There we know approximately at what time we will start radio.

I dont know if this works with this kind of pirates.
Back in 2006 I got a “slim” who just overtook my pile-up…
Some of the chasers may remember that.
It´s someone who knows exactly the way of SOTA-QSO´s
and the names of many chasers.

The best against “such” people is it to ignore them
and dont speak (write) about them on the reflectors.

In reply to GM4FAM:

Would it be a good idea to have a participant on this reflector to whome all the bearings could be sent privately for forwarding to the intruder watch people?

Yes Fritz, that’s right.
A last word about that:
This morning, it was really Pat on air… he sent me an email to confirm !

In reply to G8ADD:

A good idea in principle Brian, but I was wondering if the recent press about Ofcom cuts in manpower means that any intruder policing is getting a low priority these days.

David/G4CMQ

In reply to G4CMQ:

We can but try, Dave - and I suspect the recent culprits are outside Ofcom’s jurisdiction, anyway! This is a case for co-operation between SOTAeers in all countries and forwarding the information gained to the authorities of whichever country hosts the pests!
