I am a big friend of my endfed antenna, but re-investigating more on my AX1 these days. A test activation some days showed a reasonable/good experience.
Just remembered that the AX1 (without the extension coil for 40/30) is made for 20 resp. 17/15 with the corresponding counterpoise. Reading the fact sheet, it is not made for 10. And right, trying to set up on 10, the built-in KX2 antenna tuner can’t match to a good SWR.
Has anyone experience with running an AX1 on a KX2 on 10/SSB with a good match? Can I shorten the telescope pole by x segments or a similar easy procedure to receive a better SWR allowing (short) operation on 28 MHz?
DX is not intended, hi, but for local contacts from a summit on 10/SSB.
If you are only interested in one additional band, then a telescopic whip from Wimo might be sufficient.
I use such a whip occasionally on 10m when I am too lazy to set up the wire dipole. It’s fine for the local 10m net but don’t expect wonders. I use it with a short counterpoise wire, but the KX2 can tune it with just the cable to the external keyer as a counterpoise.
If you absolutely have to do it with the AX1, then add a bypass switch (just in your thoughts, hi).
As a reminder, here are my simple and very satisfactory solutions - as you can see, still endfed
Sorry, these unfortunately are also excellent dx performers
Edit
Markus, I could actually give you the loading coil for the bands 10/12m (built into the AX2 housing), with or without AXW1 whip, for your retirement, a little late but maybe not too late, hi.
Hw?
BTW, I know of a SOTA colleague who uses the AX1 on the switch position 17m with the KX2/ATU without any problems (VSWR 1) even on 10m.
Is there possibly a contact problem when connecting the radials to the KX2 or is a long coaxial cable still being used?
