OpenTopoMap "Survival Mode" note?

How long has OpenTopoMap been displaying that note about going into “survival mode” ?

…and more to the point, what effect is it going to have (or has it had) on Summit pages?

My first reaction to news like this is “does it affect me?” followed by “does it affect SOTA services?” It looks like the answers are no and maybe.

We have a link on the summit page to many mapping services. One link is OpenTopoMap and another is OpenStreetMap. As I understand it OpenTopoMap is a map server serving more useful top maps than OpenStreetMap offered. I had a look and was able to select topo layers and get contour lines so I think OpenStreetMap is fine. There are other links on the summit pages such as GoogleMaps and SOTL.as so I think these with OpenStreetMap we should see little loss unless I am missing some feature OpenTopoMaps provide.

For me personally in the UK, I use Manuel’s excellent SOTL.as site for overall planning. I have a subscription to Anquet Maps, £36/yr which gives me UK OS maps at 1:25k, 1:50k and road map, gazetteer and heights DB for Windows, Android, iOS and MacOS. Quarterly updates and I can download the data so I don’t need to be online. I also use the maps processed and wrapped up by Freizeitekarte (https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/) which I use with Garmin Basecamp on the PC and Orux maps on my phone. This is for non-UK mapping.

Hence my view that I think SOTA and my needs are OK. I would be interested in hearing if I have missed a specific use case that will not be satisfied.
