ON/ON-006 La Croix Scaille

Am currently holidaying in the Belgian Ardennes and there are a few SOTA’s around. I chose this one because it wasn’t too far away from our camping.

From Louette-Saint-Pierre follows an approx 6km narrow forest road. This took us to a parking place. On the map it looked small, but there was ample place.

The summit is the 4th highest in Belgium, right on the border with France, and has an outlook tower, Tour de Millénaire, which is a tourist attraction. If you take the 234 stairs, it takes you to the top-level of the 60m high tower where you have a fantastic view. There is a hut with toilets in case you need to use them.

Since I don’t have a handy KH1, and the KX2.takes up more space so it could bother other visitors, I setup at one of the picnic tables below instead of the top of the tower.

Antenna is a Chameleon Hybrid Mini with the SS25 whip, an Elecraft KX2 and a Bamakey TP3.

As warming-up I chased 2x S2S, then picked a frequency and started calling. Swapping between bands when the “well dried up".

All in all 33 CW QSO’s with 4x S2S, in about 90 min across Europe. In my Alert I wrote I would also use SSB, but unfortunately the other picnic-tables were occupied all the time, and I hate to bother people with the waffling, as we do, in SSB. So, aplos if you were waiting for me to change to SSB.

Thanks for the QSO’s.
