The Garmin inReach remained true to my actual location as said (though it was only reporting ever 10 mins), as did my Garmin watch (although that had some minor wiggles).

Most likely the number of satellites/constellations it can simultaneously track and/or receiver sensitivity. Not necessarily anything to do with solar conditions.
Yes. Essentially, the Garmin is a bit of hardware with one job, where GPS receptionâs a bit of an afterthought in most mobile phones, being a bit of a case of doing the minimum acceptable job for the least physical space and cost usually. Comparing GPS tracks for running between phones and Garmin etc. watches is night and day.
Aye, this too. Again, not totally sure on what the latest phones are doing, but most of the latest Garmin devices do multi-band GPS, Gallileo and GLONASS reception.
