No, but it’s an advantage [more efficient] to use one hand (your writing hand) for logging and the other hand for keying / paddling. See my previous postings for details …
Michael, I’m envious of your fancy leg strap for your paddles. Looks nicer than my homemade one.
I’m left handed so I learnt to straight-key with my left but years later I taught myself to twin-paddle with my right hand, so like you I no longer need to drop the pencil or move it to other fingers.
It’s hard or impossible to tell listening on air. I’m left handed and use a straight key with my left. I learnt to paddle with my right hand including the iambic seven (C F K L Y Q and R). so-called squeeze mode.
I would urge anyone learning to use dual paddles to do squeeze mode, it’s more efficient (minimum finger/thumb movements). If I can do it with my ‘useless’ hand, so can you. Just turn the character speed down low, you will be error free in an hour or so. As for non-squeezing twin-padd…
