Looks like Xiegu has announced a new radio. This time it is a 100w QRO SDR transceiver. 160m to 6m. No VHF or UHF.
No release date or price confirmed but it doesn’t exactly look /P-friendly.

Looks like it is designed to compete w/ the 7300s & 991s of the world. Wonder what the $$ will be and how well
it works.
I fell for buying the Xiegu 6200 as it is half the price of an Elecraft. A long list of bugs and problems and software dev stopped after a year of release. The help forum is a self help group for hams to cry on each others shoulders. avoid.

Fortunately I bought it from ML&S and they took it back without complaint … then I bought an IC-705 at Newark and it’s a world of difference

I bought a G90 in 2019 and use it for most of my activations. It works well, the SW improvements have been useful.

Just a thought. In the world of QRO /P (by QRO I am using 100w as the bench) is there anything out there available today (new or vintage) that can hold a candle to the mighty FT-891 or perhaps the bigger FT-897?
Now, hold on to your trousers (other types of unisex attire are available) for a minute…
I don’t mean radio X has filter Y, or a smoother less fatiguing sidetone or better RTTY this and FT8 that or what have you. I’m more looking at the form factor, weight etc.
Adding an amp to a QRP rig doesn’t count in this case. For the form factor, weight (to a certain extent), features and bang for buck I’d imagine the 891 is tough to beat?

There do seem to be lots of comments that the X6200 software was poor to dire. That’s a shame. But it’s one of the deciding factors for me when buying, does the manufacturer have long term product support? Especially in radios where software is critically important.

Hi Ian, I think you meant the FT857D not the FT-891. The 891 is a current radio; the 857 a much-missed portable “shack in a box”. The FTX1 with added modules is Yaesu’s answer, but I can’t see it attracting those who are looking for an FT857D equivalent.

In my experience, the “radio side” of the X6200 is OK. The problems lie in the Linux based User Interface/display/computer network/BT side, which lacks needed driver and other OS updates. The aftermarket SD card bootable User GUI from Github shows what that radio could do if the Linux side of the radio was brought up to date. The same applies to the X6100.
A real shame. The G90 is well loved (but has no VHF, not even 6m). The X series have been “problem children”. Thankfully, this new radio’s number starts with “G” not “X” so I read that to mean that everything happens in custom microcontroller firmware, not in a user OS of any kind.
From the very, very little information that has leaked so far, I feel this base station radio may be trying to be a competitor to the ICOM 7610 or FTDX10/101?
