A few weeks ago I had an opportunity to activate a couple New Hampshire’s jewels.
First I hiked into Hermit Lake and spent a couple of nights on a tent platform on my up Tuckerman’s Ravine. Tuckerman’s Ravine trail ascends 4000 feet up the east side of Mount Washington.
Next I met a group of hikers at Black Pond and headed into Owls Head. This summit is one of New Hampshire’s most remote peaks. This 17 mile in and out trip takes you to the heart of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. It was an absolute honor to activate a little visited summit and to be part of the Flags Team on this Memorial event. Thank you so much Doug for asking me to tag along.
As always I want to express thanks to all the chasers who checked in. Sorry for the sticky key. It has been replaced.

Um. May seem a dumb question but how do you get the tentpegs in on those wooden plarforms? Looks like you’d need to carry cord to tie down to the planks with…
Hi Matt,
Not a dumb question. Platforms are common in the White Mountain National Forest so that’s why I use a free standing tent. I have also forced my pegs in between the planks and on occasion I have used branches, cord and I also have a set of tent plank tie downs.

My two favorite but yet most difficult hikes I’ve ever done in the Whites were Owl’s head and Isolation. Those two hikes are the ones i loved and remember the most. Camping in the Pemi is awesome.
