There is a new Beta for the SOTAMAT phone app, and the SOTACAT hardware module firmware. The communication protocol between the SOTAMAT app and the SOTACAT module has been improved to be more robust, and if you want to use them together both need to be updated at the same time.
- SOTACAT Beta version 260215 (2026-02-15)
- SOTAMAT Beta v2.2.2
Instructions for getting and installing Betas is here: Changelog – SOTAmāt
@Jeff KC6X wrote a document explaining the (extensive!!) new functionality here: Release v260215.1853 · SOTAmat/SOTAcat · GitHub
Jeff did most of the work, with additional help from @Justin K5EM, @Ken WR7D , and myself.
Check out the new features! And then install the BETA and give us feedback!
P.S.: unrelated notes
- The SOTAMAT Skimmer was updated last week to version 1.2.2.30. When you aren’t using your radio at home, set it up as an automated monitoring skimmer and help activators get spotted. Any receiver can work (single band, with WSJT-X), but especially people with SparkSDR compatible multi-band radios (ex. Hermes Lite 2) should participate!
- Looking at the logs, nobody seems to know about the
RBNinfocommand. Read about it, and give it a spin. - And don’t forget that with many phones supporting Satellite messaging, the
spots,weather, andSpotMecommands can help you even when there is no cell service. Documented here, and there is a quick field-guide reference guide in the SOTAMAT app under the...menu.
Enjoy,
