N6JFD Autumn EU SOTA

Hiya, the wife and I are touring the mainland for yet another fall. I managed to sneak in an afternoon activation on the Azores island of Sao Miguel (cu/sm-005). TU for the chasers that did manage to hear me.

I am running a KX2 with the AX1/AXE setup, my experience with 40M on this setup has been hit or miss. That said, after a couple of days on Barcelona (and a hopeful activation on El Tibidabo) I will be heading to Porto to walk the Camino along the coast there. On my map it looks like there are 3 Portuguese summits near the path where I will break away from my party to activate. I want to say another 3-5 in Spain for the remainder of the way. After that I will comment on later other SOTA plans (Italy and Greece), but hoping to keep racking up QSOs with the chasers on this side of the Atlantic!! If I happen to be near you, would love an eyeball qso or two as well. Please feel free to DM or Email me!!

Are you SERIOUS? Do you mean to say that for our QSO you were not only running ten watts from your KX2, but were using one of those tinsy whips? Good Grief! No wonder you were a whisper, but that whisper was enough. Will keep an eye out for your further adventures.

hehe, yup. Went with a more stealthy setup since I am probably doing more crowded and urban-ish activations this trip. Have had some tight squeezes for setup areas in the past over here… Seems to draw less artention too. That said, I know I am losing chasers which bugs me!

Everyone has been hit or miss on 40m recently, even with a full sized antenna!

thats for sure. When I worked “Ben on the Ben” from Scarr back in Aprik on 40, it was awful, and was surprised we managed the QSO at all. One of the other chasers had to promot Ben there was an S2S attempting him
