Steve, in case you didn’t know CSV stands for comma separated values. It’s a textual way of representing spreadsheet files. Given so many of the file formats are proprietry, CSV allows easier interchange between different programs. Microsoft Excel will read and write CSV files as does OpenOffice. Those two programs cover Windows and Linux, not sure what you’d use for OS-X.

The format goes reading left to right:
Activating callsign,
date,
time,
summit ref,
band,
mode,
chaser callsign,
comments
If when you import the file into the database there are errors then you’ll get a prompt to what is wrong. You can edit the file in any text editor or use a spreadsheet if you want. If you already have the data logged in another program then there are some tools around to reformat it for use on the database. Alain F6ENO wrote an ADIF to SOTA converter.
If you only work 30 or so contacts then typing them into the database live isn’t a big issue. For those who end up with hundreds of QSOs it can be a pain typing them in.
