Midweek QRP SOTA Success!

Today, I went up G/SP-008, Boulsworth Hill - Lad Law, with my Dad. I took a Spectrum Communications Slim G with me for 2m and had 11 QSOs in 15 minutes; a big difference to my 0 2m QSOs the other day on Gun. The FT-817 performed well, possibly because of better filtering than a handheld? The antenna certainly made a difference over a rubber duck.

Sorry to anyone who was waiting to chase me on HF FT8, the WX was poor and we were being eaten alive by a swarm of midges so we wanted to get down quickly!

Thank you, Romain!

The 817 has filtering and Baofung’s have none! The 817, whilst a bit old and not as shiny as some modern radios, is a very fine radio. The fact you can get almost mint examples second hand for £350-£400 is a bargain. I only sold mine to recoup the arm, leg, kidney and liver I sold to buy some newer radios.
