M0XIO Brighstone G/SE-012 Activation

Quite a blustery day with rain forecast, arrived at car park to see the hilltops blanketed in cloud.

Started the walk up to the summit with my father,

Kit was lighter than on previous activations as i had no camping equipment this time.

We arrived at the tumulus after a fairly short walk, the wind was quite strong at the top of the hill, but a little less so in the shelter of trees near the tumulus.
We assembled the G5RV and secured each end, propped it up with a SOTA tactical pole, with a guyline to the top of the tumulus. Phone signal was weak, but i did manage to get enough to self spot on 40m band, after which 16 qso’s, including a few regulars came in thick and fast.

Once the pileup abated, I had a quick try on the handheld on 145.5, but didnt hear anyone coming back, i had no 2m antenna for the ft857 on me so confident that had enough HF qso’s. we packed for the slightly muddy walk back to the car. The wind was still blowing hard, but the cloud cover had reduced by this time.

Well done Glenn @M0XIO

My dad G7WKW lives in Freshwater Bay just along from the summit, so I try to activate at least once per year when I visit him. Did your dad moan as much as mine does when I make him walk up to the trig point? :joy:

I’ll be there in mid-Jan, so hopefully I’ll give you the opportunity to chase for the complete, if you need it.

I am doing my Xmas visit and figured I’d bag them while over here.

My dad in his 70s is fitter than I am and regularly cycles various routes around the island, it’s me that moans and grumbles, this being my attempt to get some exercise.

He did however moan a little when I told him that the end of the dipole he had attached was a bit wonky and needed redoing
