Hi, we are traveling with our camper through the Czech Republic this summer and we would like to activate two or three peaks in the Tatra Mountains. Can anyone recommend a few nice, not too difficult SOTAs? And we are looking also for a couple of peaks on the german- czech border. Tnx. 73
Hi Rainer,
Depending on where you aim to cross into the Czech Republic from Germany, there are several easier-to-access summits near the border in the Bavarian forest area.
DM/BM-047 Grosser Arber has cable car access for most of the route
DM/BM-002 Proller is a not-too-long hill walk up from where you can park near Burggasthof Hochproller
DM/BM-296 Hadriwa is a longer but flatter walk-in from the Wanderparkplatz Riedern Kreuz
DM/BM-304 Haidstein is a family-friendly, drive-up summit with a cafe and a church to view.

Danke.
SP/TA-016 - very easy, forest location, on the trail nice view
OM/ZA-046 - easy hike and beautiful view on both Polish and Slovak sides of Tatras
SP/TA-010 in the loop with OM/PO-013 - fine but longer hike is requested

Thank you Jarek. It is not about short hikes. We can take km and meters uphill. It is about tecnical modorate and not too dificult. We would like to hike up a Tartra summit.
The Giewont (SP/TA-010) looks very good. But is it really so overcrowded?
If you will go early you will not face troubles:
below is photo taken on UTC 06:16
the final stage of the trail was empty:
but if you will start too late you will not be happy - below is foto found in the net showing the situation on the trail:

Tnx. What do you think, will 2m work for a fast Sota? Or is it complicated to get the QSOs on 2m in SP?
It should be workable - see my logs. 145.550 is the best frq. Alert will be helpful.

If so, pls consider SP/TA-002, below is view to South from the summit:
You can use cable car to Kasprowy Wierch and than hike is much shorter that hike from the city to SP/TA-010.

Looks great. Do you know if we can take the cable car with a dog?
Upps, I just have seen, no dogs allowed in the whole Tatra National Park. So we won’t go. Tnx for your summits. What a pity.
You can still go to SP/TA-016 and OM/ZA-046 - they are not in the park.

Same happens in some natural parks in France, no dogs allowed so we can’t go (Neouvielle for instance).
Thankfully the Bavarian Forest NP does not have dog access restrictions but there are some rules:
