Local Knowledge / Advice Requested for Amateur Radio Shop in the North

Hi Everyone,

Just after some local knowledge and directions to a good shop which sells amateur radio kit in ‘The North”. As some who is now based “Down South” but from “Up North”, I’ve lost touch with retailers here. I’m on holiday at a Caravan site between Lancaster and Preston. I see there is Stewarts Radio in Blackpool, but that looks like more commercial satellite and radio.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Dave G7SAT

I’ve never used them or been there so don’t take this as a recommendation. Also it’s in deepest darkest South Yorkshire.

And no idea why the logo there is embroidery!

EDIT: Because they sell clothing and other items embroided with your name and callsign.

I’ve bought new from Lamco in the past. Jolly decent proprietor who even gave me a better than list-price price for a new item when paying by credit card. A very approachable owner and seemed UFB to deal with.

I too have used LAMCO, finding them helpful and reliable.

Thanks Chaps, I may do a day trip out that way at the end of next week. It’s not around the corner, but I wasn’t expecting anything on the doorstep.

Also Canny Components on Gatehead.

I’ve used both Canny and Lamco for both new and second hand radios and never had a problem.

I also like the fact that both support rallies.

The Lamco shop is a real Aladins cave too  - I havent been in the other.

Its a real shame that ARC in Newton-Le-Willows closed many years ago as that was local to me and another of those places that your wallet was in danger when you visited
