The problem is a 6 figure Maidenhead locator only gives you a 2.5km x 1.25km square, so not really a good enough resolution to give a meaningful result.

Yes, I did think that would be the case.

You could extend it to accept 8 or 10 figure Maidenhead locators as they use on the high uWave bands.

Ok, the tool now accepts 8 or 10 figure Maidenhead locators.

Very useful, thanks a lot for this cool tool!

Just a silly idea: if someone enters only a 6-character Maidenhead locator, could you automatically center it within the corresponding 8-character locator? For example, from JN37tl to JN37tl55. I know it’s quite coarse, but sometimes it’s good enough.

BTW: Yesterday, I had a 2 m FM S2S with @HB9NBG/2 and @HB9FZC/P. Good signal reports and both were using only handheld antennas. The signal traveled from the Vosges, across the Jura, to the French Alps:

Thanks

it is possible, but appending a 6 figure maidenhead locator with 55 also will also do the same thing.

I totally agree with you. Sure, I can do that. I was thinking more about other users who might not be aware that 55 marks the center of the corresponding 8-character locator.

Update: I just checked it again and if I counted the squares correctly, it seems it’s not only 55, but the center of 45, 55, 44 and 45.

Anyway, it was just a silly idea.

There are no silly ideas, suggestions are always welcome.
