LD SOTA Weekend October 2025

Starting a new thread so as not to confuse, this is for discussion of the Lake District SOTA weekend planned for 18-19th October 2025.

Early days for alerting but I think there will be more than two of us with 23cm FM on the Saturday. I would encourage others to take their 23cm kit.

If anyone is interested in 23cm SSB or CW, I would take my FT817 and 7-element Yagi.

Whilst currently not able to commit to anything further afield, I should be able to get out on Billinge Hill for a few hours.

Not the best for 23cm to the north its worth a try. Closer to the date I may be able to look at somewhere like Longridge Fell or even Hutton Roof Crags.

Ditto for SSB, otherwise I’ll just take FM for weight saving.

Is anyone interested in 4m?

I could be if there’s an opportunity for 4m S2S

I’ll be out for it, depending on weather and how I feel, it might just be my local one G/LD-049 or maybe something else for a change.

I’ll definitely have 23cm and can also take 4mtr

Depends on the WX but I shall try to be somewhere in Southern GM to work G/LD&NP summits on 2m/70cm/23cm & 13cm. I’m not coming down to stay in Windermere or the LD as it’s simply not possible to find sensibly priced accommodation at short notice.

Looking good to be part of the action. Possibly in company with M0TKF.

There’s a 6m contest on the Sunday if anyone wants to qualify a summit on 6m:

You can get contacts and give away points without having to submit a log.

I’m hoping to be up there on Saturday, can do 23cm SSB or FM, my only portable Yagi is a 5-element.

I can’t get to the lakes, but if I am free I (granddaughters football a priority) I will be on one of the G/SP summits. (one with easy walk up). Will take 23+13cm and one other band.

I think I’ll just come over for the day - and at the moment I have alerted for Skiddaw (G/LD-004) and this time I’m going to try to go up via Carl Side. I’m afraid I don’t have any 23cm kit but I will try on 2m and HF. Are there any plans for meeting up in the evening? I think last time we met in The Elleray in Windermere. ( This is still provisional as it depends on my youngest daughter’s plans and University visits…). 73. Paul

Hi Paul

Yes it will be the usual scenario, meeting up at the Elleray in Windermere on Saturday evening from 6.30pm onwards.

Regards, Mark.

Whilst not within the national park boundary I’ll will be on G/SP-017 seeing if I can catch the action in LD/ Will have 2M,70cm and 23cm on FM. Will anyone be doing anything on 2 or 70 ssb or do I leave the beam at home?

Aiming to be there around 9:30 UTC for a couple of hours to maximise opportunities and give out a few CQ calls.

Yes I’ll take the ft-817 and a small yagi as the winds look light

People should spot they are happy to try VHF and UHF SSB using vertical polarisation.

If I don’t take my 23cm Yagi [and instead use the PCB antenna supplied with the 23cm transverter] I could use the 4m pole for my 2m Yagi instead.

Interesting. It’s a faff with my portable 2m Yagi to change polarisation [lower the pole, take the U-clamp off and rotate 90 degrees, etc]. And it would be a whole lot easier to do FM and SSB with the same polarization. So, I’m wondering for this non-contest event, how many home-based would-be 2m SSB chasers with collinears would come out of the woodwork if they knew I and other activators were vertically-polarised for SSB.

My ‘cheapest I could find’ WIMO 2m/70cm antenna is an easy twist between horizontal and vertical - so easy that the lightest wind will do it for me!

I’ll have the IC705 and beam with me too, so 2m SSB horizontal or vertically polarised.
