Today my wife and me went to La Creueta (1925m) EA3/GI-040. It is a easy mountain because you can leave the car at col de Creueta and only need about 20 minutes to arrive to the summit. The summit allows a wonderful landscape of Pirinees (Andorra, France and Catalonia, also you can see another mountains like Pedraforca, Taga, Montseny, Costa Pubilla, etc etc.
The setup was:
-LNR Mountain Topper powered by 3x18650, Palm paddle.
-Antenna car MFJ 1630-T adapted on a tripod and three wire radials about 6 meters each.
A 14 QSO comes home, three fabulous S2S. Not so much but happy with the sota/treking day.
Hi Jon,
Don’t you get ticks with your shorts and operating on the grass?
I have just removed one from each of my legs, in spite of always going with long trousers and having had a shower and changed all my clothing as soon as I got home yesterday after my activation.
I just checked my guts and no news from sticks ir another parasit insect. Hi, Hi.
Between me and grass or snow I always put a little matt. Before this I carried a lightweight foldable chair, but actually I go with a minimalist style.
=============================
I always operate lately sat on my foldable chair, but there were tall weeds yesterday where I operated, mi boots were on the weeds and spent more than 2h an a half there. It looks like the ticks had time to climb my boots and find the gap at the end of my trousers to enter and hook up.
I had one nearly on my right ankle and another one behind my left knee.
Well, I guess this is part of the SOTA activating toll.
Hi Jon,
What a nice portable set up you have!
I never thought of using a Hamstick with radials
I will have to give it a try.
I got a MTR-3b a few months ago what a great rig,
I used a 6volt battery and it worked fine.
