Klaus, DF2GN, found at POTA

What a surprise this evening (around 1815z) when I happened to see a POTA spot on the 80-meter band for Klaus, DF2GN.
The QSO (in crystal-clear quality) was a great pleasure for both of us after so long.

SOTA veterans will surely remember the large wire antennas Klaus used to hang in the treetops and the excellent results he achieved with them.

Many years ago, after a serious accident resulting in a complicated leg fracture, Klaus announced that he would have to reorient himself towards portable radio (at the time, he owned neither a fixed radio station nor an antenna).
Now, Klaus seems to have found great enjoyment in POTA as a substitute for activating SOTA summits.

Kraus was a regular contact during the greyline days of 2013/4 and one of my memorable contacts with him was from Mt Stromlo using the 817 without an amplifier or compressor etc. Very sorry to read of his injury but I’m not surprised he has switched his enthusiasm and energy to parks activating. I wish him well and hope to make contact again some time. I’m an occasional WWFF activator so our paths may cross. Looking forward to it.

I had the same experience when I chased Klaus a while ago as he was activating a Pota. Does that mean I’m a veteran? Gosh!

I was happy to meet him again this way. He’s doing well on SSB & CW and hearing his call on air recalls good past times.

He’s doing fine and I wish him he continues the good habit of Pota portable radio!

All the best Klaus, 73

Sorry Ignacio, but you actually fulfill all the criteria for being a SOTA veteran in the above sense, because this applies to all SOTA enthusiasts who were already active before Klaus’s involuntary break in 2014 :bullseye:  :innocent:

Wishing you continued enjoyment of our hobby!

73 take care,
Heinz
