Can you get to the top of Kirkstone Pass from Windermere? According to the Cumbria County Council leaflet and Westmorland and Furness Council website you should be able to but Google Maps thinks the road is closed. There was also a comment on the SOTA LD Weekend thread that the only way to the top was by the Struggle from Ambleside. Can any local confirm either way?
You can only get to the top via The Struggle that runs up from Ambleside.
The road from Windermere is blocked about 2 miles from the top.
Regards, Mark.
Thanks for the info. It’s a shame that the council isn’t sending out the correct information.
I used that car park from the LD SOTA weekend, the weekend before last. The Inn is also closed for refurbishment, in case you were planning to get a beer (as your pictogram suggests ) and a ploughmans. Otherwise, the car park is relatively quiet and you should be able to get parked at all times of the day.

Planned roadworks and road closures on the A592 between Troutbeck and Glenridding, which will affect traffic and access coming from the South over the Kirkstone Pass.
These are planned to commence in early February 2023 and are expected to last for over 12 months with completion programmed for March 2024:
06/03/23 – Full Road Closure for 4 weeks
05/06/23 – Full Road Closure for 4 weeks
11/09/23 – Full Road Closure for 2 weeks+
01/03/24 – Full Road Closure for 3 weeks
Unfortunately, the unitary authorities which have taken over from Cumbria County Council haven’t got their act together.
I emailed A592@cumbria.gov.uk to ask for clarification. I’ve just got this reply:
The auto reply I got to the email when I sent it said
To access businesses and facilities on the southern side of Kirkstone Pass you will need to access from Windermere.
so I hope they can get it right everywhere!
