I mentioned that I am striving for “Goat”.
I live in Fountain Hills, AZ, way east in the Phoenix area, in the Nov-Apr months. I wonder if you can point me to a SOTA-focused group in AZ that might take in a SOTA sorta newbie.

Suggest you contact Pete, WA7JTM, AFTER THIS WEEKEND. He is the SOTA mgr. for AZ; he can tell you how to get on a SOTA e-mail list for the Western states area On this weekend, there is a 10-point SOTA Peak Madness event. See: W7A s2s 10-point Madness Event Sept 28th - #16 by WA7JTM
Should add: There are lots of quite experienced SOTA ops in your area.
Look for the call letters on the SOTA event this weekend. and look some up on QRZ.com website.
There is at least one 2M frequency that they monitor as well.
