Well, we got the fledgling MinneSOTA Association started with the first activation from a mighty one-pointer: K0M/SE-003. The summit is on a heavily wooded bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in southeastern MN, about 225 miles from my home near the SW corner of the state. The weather was perfect - 76 degrees, a slight breeze, and a cloudless sky - it was a glorious fall day in SE Minnesota, with the leaves just starting to turn.
As planned, I started on 12m SSB and generally went down the bands in order, with a couple hops to work some other summits. NA6MG was on frequency with a loud signal to claim honors as the first chaser to work a K0M activation. Thanks to Dan and Rich, N4EX, for the spots too! Unfortunately 12 and 15 didn’t really do much else for me, as I had hoped to work some Europeans. I did work MM0USU on 12M but that was it for EU. Not surprisingly 20M was the workhorse band, both on SSB (17 QSOs) and CW (12 QSOs). I wrapped things up with some contacts on 30M. I ended up with 40 QSOs in the book including 4 S2S contacts: N6KZ, KI4SVM, KU6J, and KH2TJ.
From my perspective, the first MinneSOTA activation was successful. Thanks again to everybody that chased me, and a special thanks to Sam, K0YAK and all the others that got the MinneSOTA Association going!
