JA5/KC-171. Asahigaoka activation

Today was a second chance for a SOTA-activation during our Shikoku Henro pilgrimage. We left our guesthouse in Tano-cho a little late and walked up along the quiet road to temple 27 of the 88.
This was a 540m hike up, then down again another 100m because of the route we chose.
After visiting this nice and quiet temple, we walked up another 200m easy tarmac road to the summit. The summit is full with telecom towers and electricity wires, so I was worried about interference from them. I threw the 25ft wire in a tree, and fortunately the noise-level was almost zero.
I posted a self-spot, and the next half hour was pile-up time. 35 Q’s in 30 min on 20m only. This was the second activation of this summit, and the first one on HF/CW. Because we had to hike back another 15 km to the guest-house, I shutdown after 30 mins. There were still a few stations calling, but my XYL was getting cold, so I’m sorry for not staying longer.
Thank you all for the QSO’s

Thanks Martin for the report and pictures from Japan ! Great to see, especially as you need a local licence.

Well done Martin. It must be very special to do SOTA in Japan!

I enjoy it indeed. It seems to me the pile-up is even bigger than in EU. Most contacts are in JA, but that is all fine for me, as I don’t need DX to be happy with an activation.

I need to max out the amount of QSO’s because of the cost of getting the license, or else I will beat 3Y0J in cost per QSO, hi.
