A little over a week ago, I decided to activate Boulder Hill. This time, I used my GPS watch with maps to show my location. I was shocked to discover that where I had set up in the past was not in the activation zone. Boulder Hill is a jumble of very large flat-faced rocks. The first time I activated the summit, I set up behind a large rock to get out of the wind. Unfortunately, I didn’t check the map. I had always assumed that I was looking at the summit about 20 feet above me. I went home and removed my three activations from the SOTA database. Later, I started thinking about other summits where I had chosen for various reasons to set up in the activation zone instead of on the actual summit. I did an “audit” using maps and found that 4 of the 6 activations of Perrin Mountain were not in the activation zone. I’ve also removed these from the database. The removal deleted my points for these “activations” and the summit to summit points. Unfortunately, there was quite a number of chasers for these activations. I’ve saved my activation logs from the database for all of them, but I only thought to look at “who chased me” for the 2025 Perrin Mountain activation, so I’m attempting to contact them. I didn’t think to look at the others until I had already removed the activation logs. I’ve listed the activation dates below in the hope that the affected chasers will recognize the summit designators or my call sign and adjust their logs. If anyone has questions, they can contact me at k0daj@cold.winterweather.net.
My most humble and profuse apologies for this major screw up.
