Incorrect summit reference today from GM/ES-053

I spotted for GM/ES-052 :cross_mark:

I was actually on GM/ES-053 :white_check_mark:

I think a water droplet on my phone caused this.

It was a horrible day on Ben Newe. Windy with driven snow. 40m was closed, so I had a short pile up on 20m instead. The main aim of the day was to earn a Groundhog Day badge. This was done via a S2S on 2m with GM5ALX, which was just as well for him, as he couldn’t get his KX2 to work.

definitely a Buffalo smock kind of day

Stations affected:

SQ9CWO HBYCYV OH3GZ SQ9JYK @M0DLL HB9HDA @EA7GV @G3VXJ @EA1DHB LY2NZ EI2LF @GM5ALX

I’ll email as well.

In the (often repeated) words of @MM0YCJ Colwyn, I’ll try to do better next time.

100% of my radios worked. That’s 50% more than you.

Top Tip

After a snowy activation, don’t leave your snow filled radio in its wet and snowy carry case for a week.

Well it was only 33% of my radios that didn’t work. I had two HTs with me as I was worried the snowflake ft5d wouldn’t like the rain.

Seems your drop of water also ended up in my mic socket, but a 90s game console cleaning technique solved the problem when home.

Nice burn :fire:

I can hear my son doing this as if he was 10 and it was 23 years ago.

I was cleaning out some boxes of dog treats from Christmas and they had bags of Silica Gel in them. They are currently being re-dessicated and will be dropped in with some SOTA gear in boxes to keep them drier. I use some food storage boxes with air tight lids .

I can probably manage that.

It was worth it! Apart from the fact that I’d forgotten how labourious it is to upload a paper log. (Too wet for the phone today.)

Is it? I always enjoy transcribing from my Rite in the Rain notepad to FLE after an activation.

Yeah, well I had a few issues

Rite in the Rain No.HV935 pad

Maybe it isn’t rated to Rite in the Snow?

I swapped my pen and notepad for my phone yesterday - not a disaster, but I got one of my S2S references wrong (now corrected).

Nothing’s perfect, neither will anything make up for my cack-handedness.

(Though a notepad is perfect for doodling when tumbleweeds roll by on 20m).

Above and beyond today Fraser, but I’m glad you got the badge.

I was on one summit where the rain kept wiping my self-spots off before I could post them. A few very choice words were lost in the wind. Thankfully a few regular chasers were monitoring my usual 2m SSB frequency and the spot came from one of them.

The more contacts made, the worse it becomes. I’ve had a few fairly large logs in my time, but the majority are reasonable and not too laborious to put on the database. Then again, I’m the sort of person that is happy to park further away from where I’m going and walk a few more steps rather than try to shoehorn my car into a space as close as possible… get my drift? :joy:

Well done persevering Fraser. After activations like that I get a sense of achievement, so I hope it’s the same for you.
