No “Down Trou” for the fashion show at the HamRadio!
I suppose we all look a bit like polar bears with down and primaloft garment. No reason not to run!
Featheredfriends.com has some options.
I’m with M0RWX on the British Army softie pants. Cheap, warm, easy to wash, don’t absorb water like down and somewhat expendable so you don’t hold back from wearing them. I must have three or four pairs knocking around. I often carry a pair on winter fell-runs, for when I overestimated my fitness and need to walk for a while. They are certainly warm.
The pants arrived today… and they made a very good impression. Nicely insulating and packs up small.
But what I realized at first glance - it was too small.
I had already suspected that it would run small and ordered it in the largest size, XXL. But I couldn’t fit over the jeans in size 36. They would perhaps fit over a 32.
Now it’s being sent back…

Yes - i do like them on top of a pair of “Ron hills” sometimes for flexibility - bit old school

Ron Hills? Ron Hills ??? Old school? I haven’t seen anyone wearing them for years. 30 years ???
I think I last wore mine in the Swiss alps around 1980
Old school for sure, I joined the ron hill trend 30 years ago. Nowadays it does get some looks, particularly in the post hill pub. You can still buy the “classics” and i regularly get them for christmas
Now that I haven’t found anything in the mountain sports area that has full-length zippers on the sides… and that I can easily put on over my hiking pants on the summit… and that gives me an additional warming layer on my legs… I have I wondered what else there would be.
I found what I was looking for - the rehab pants!
People in rehab also feel cold… move little and are sometimes exposed to wind and weather. The pants are wide cut because they may have to fit over a cast leg and you have to be able to put them on easily because your mobility is limited.
And there is another advantage: They are quite cheap! - I’ll try this one now… it makes a good first impression.
Maybe something for you too…
