I developed FT8TW, a free Android app, to help me operate SOTA more conveniently.

I used FT8CN as the foundation to develop FT8TW. Since I really enjoy SOTA activities, I added some features that make SOTA operation more convenient, and I hope you will like them.

For example, FT8TW can use the phone’s GPS directly for time synchronization. When I am on a summit, I may not always have a mobile network signal, and I usually do not have time to manually adjust the clock slowly. In that situation, having the phone with me is very convenient.

I also added a log feature for recording SOTA reference numbers, as well as a function to quickly fetch recently active frequencies. Recently, I added FT4 and FT2 support too, although it seems that not many people in my area are using them yet.

You can install it directly from the Google Play Store or download the APK from GitHub.

Please note that FT8/FT4 is the newer version.

If you have any fresh ideas, feel free to leave an issue on GitHub. I’ll consider whether to add some fun new features.

Installed and within a few minutes, decoding 20m FT8 off VK5ARG KiwiSDR, acoustically coupled between shack PC speaker and smartphone. And the audio spectrum waterfall will be a useful test tool. Will enjoy playing with this further, thanks for a highly polished app!

It’s not just for FT8 anymore. I’ve recently been enhancing the QSL logging feature so I can quickly log my CW QSOs in the field. When I get home, I can export them directly as CSV file that’s compatible with the SOTA Database.
